How to create a playful but tidy kids' room
A child’s room is more than just a space - it’s their little universe, filled with toys, play and cozy moments.
A cozy home in Denmark where colorful play and tidiness go hand in hand.
Mette, mother of three children aged 8, 5, and 2, has created the most charming kids' rooms in the family’s home in Ringe. Here, there’s room for fun and games while keeping everything neatly organized.
Where Aesthetics Meet Practicality
It’s all about balance: children should be free to play, but colorful toys scattered everywhere can quickly feel chaotic. For Mette, it’s about making tidying and organizing easy – using storage solutions that are both child-friendly and beautiful.
"We love the handy storage baskets! They fit perfectly in cupboards, cube shelves, and under the bed, plus they can be stacked when not in use. That means less clutter on the floor, and they’re easy to move around when the kids want to play somewhere other than their room," Mette explains.
The family also loves the decorative storage houses and colorful baskets, which make it easy to transport train tracks and Duplo blocks from the kids’ room to the living room. "And it’s just wonderful that they’re so nice to look at too," she adds.
Three Tips for a Functional and Magical Kids’ Room
- Choose timeless design solutions: Look for furniture and accessories that grow with your child. Practical and durable pieces can be reused year after year, passed between siblings, or even handed down through generations.
- Create space for creativity and free play: Set up an area where your child can be creative and play freely. A desk with a comfortable chair for small projects and drawing, or a cleared space on the floor for playing with toys, can make all the difference.
- Think organizing and smart storage: Smart storage is a lifesaver! Choose fun and decorative storage options that make tidying up a cozy and manageable activity you can do together.
