Meet the Artist

Selma Guéniau

Born and raised in a world of color.

Selma Guéniau has been surrounded by colors from day one. As the daughter of rice founders Charlotte and Philippe Hedeman Guéniau, she grew up in a home where there was always room for fun and colors – just like in the rice universe!

Today, Selma is both an artist and an active part of the next generation in the company – including as a member of the board at rice A/S.

A childhood home full of color

In the Guéniau family, colors aren’t just something you “put on” - they’re a way of thinking and living. Charlotte is known for her universe of patterns, wallpapers, and designs in bright colors, and that’s exactly the world Selma has stepped right into.

Still, she has found her very own voice as an artist, but with the same love for everyday scenes, meals, and the people closest to her.

6 months in New York

And a new wave of inspiration

In 2023, Selma spent six inspiring months in New York – a time that has left a playful mark on some of our favorite designs and patterns. Much of her inspiration came from vibrant art exhibitions, cool neighborhood diners, and endless cups of “to go” coffee – all of it gently brewing into the designs you see in our rice universe today.

In New York Selma drew and painted motifs that later were translated into beautiful prints and patterns for our Autumn Winter 2024 collection at rice.

From sketchbook to rice products

Something special about the collaboration between Selma and rice is how her hand-drawn motifs get to live on across everything from vases to tableware.

With her paintings and designs she helps carry the story forward and gives a new generation the desire to embrace color, play, and art in everyday life.
