Happy Home Outside
Just breathe… a bit of fresh air does wonders for the brain and the mental state. Every chance you get to be outside, you should grab it. “Energy flows where attention goes” … this is very true. So, if you would like to use your outdoor space in a regular and more spontaneous way, pay some attention to how you can create a good set-up that enables you to live outdoors just as if it a natural extension of the inside of your house.
Living easily both inside out and outside in is the perfect flow for me – I love to hang out in the fresh air, even if it’s not always sunny with blue skies. And to make myself comfortable, I surround myself with coziness and bright, cheerful accessories. In order for this to happen in a spontaneous way you need to create practical and easy solutions, so you have ready or can carry all you need quickly and easily. When you decide you want to be outdoors, even on cooler days, it should not be such a big project you are put off the idea before you even begin.
I find that when you live in a country where the sun is not always your most trustworthy companion, you need to be able to pick up and move quickly outside when the weather allows it. I enjoy reading and lying outside, even in autumn, and in summer I love having dinner parties in the garden – entertaining outside often creates a more relaxed and easy-going atmosphere than a similar occasion held inside.
In Denmark we are sunseekers and want to make the most of the summer sunshine when we are lucky enough to have it. In other countries you might seek the shade and nice cool areas. Whatever it is you need, you have to define it so you can organize yourself in a way for this to happen easily and smoothly.
Try to plan your outdoor space in the same way you think about your interiors - like a natural extension of the room. This is basically done by letting the same style continue through the doors and into the open. You can just as easily enjoy a drink inside as outside, and if you have friends who prefer the shade, they can do that, without feeling excluded from the rest of the party. If you consider the outdoors as an extended part of your home, the transition from inside to outside should be quite smooth, both visually and practically, with something for everyone to enjoy.
