Colorful kids room

with Julia Svensson

Welcome inside the home of Julia Svensson - a colorful home in southern Sweden, where creativity, color, and cozy everyday moments go hand in hand.

Julia is 33 years old and lives in the small Swedish town of Sölvesborg with her partner and their two daughters, Lotta, aged 3.5, and Lise, aged 1. The family lives in a charming yellow brick house close to the sea.

A calm family life by the sea

Julia runs a clothing store together with her mother and sister. Right now, however, everyday life looks a little different. She is on maternity leave with Lise, but still spends one day a week at the store, helping with purchasing and staying connected to a part of life that means a lot to her.

This autumn will bring a new adventure, as Julia returns full-time and both girls start daycare. But for now, life moves at a slower pace – and the family is enjoying every minute of it.

"We spend a lot of time at home in our house or garden, where we decorate, draw, eat cake, water the flowers, or cook," Julia says.

For Julia and her family, it is often the simplest things that matter most. A bike ride to get ice cream. A trip to the beach with a bucket and shovel. An afternoon in the garden, watering flowers, making drawings, and enjoying a piece of cake under the blue sky.

When Lotta is at daycare for a few hours each week, Julia gets some extra one-on-one time with Lise. Sometimes that time is spent catching up on practical things around the house. Other times, it is spent doing nothing in particular – perhaps simply relaxing in a lounge chair while Lise takes her nap.

A home filled with creativity

Julia always has a small project going on at home. A decorative detail here, a cozy corner there, something being moved around until it feels just right. She loves creating a warm and welcoming home for her family – and Lotta seems to have inherited that passion.

"My oldest daughter can sit for ages in her little corner by her desk, completely absorbed in what she's doing," Julia says.

When colors move into the kids' room

In the children's rooms, colors are a natural part of the space – alongside drawings, toys, little treasures, and all the wonderful things that come with having young children in the house.

Julia loves a home filled with color and personality, but it should still feel calm and comfortable. As she puts it:

"We like colors, but we also like things to feel simple and timeless."

That balance is reflected throughout the children's rooms. There are baskets for toys, small details that make the space feel cozy, and room for the things Lotta and Lise are interested in right now. Drawings on the table, toys on the floor, little projects waiting to be finished – and plenty of space to play, tidy up, make a mess again, and simply be themselves.
