A colorful home with Mette Norrild
There’s something truly special about stepping into a home where color is allowed to shine. A home where personality, playful details, and everyday family life all come together in the most beautiful way.
For Mette Norrild, color isn’t just something you paint on the walls or place on a shelf. It’s part of the atmosphere, part of everyday life, and part of the way her family lives.

A home made for real life
Mette lives in a villa on the island of Funen with her husband, Peter, and their three children: Frederik (9), Johanne (6), and Agnes (4).
Life at home probably looks a lot like it does for many young families. Two full-time jobs, school, after-school activities, and busy days where the calendar fills up before you know it.
"We have a wonderfully ordinary, slightly chaotic family life. With three children, work, and activities, there’s always something going on - but we genuinely love a busy everyday life."
Mette works as a Communication & Marketing Coordinator at rice, while Peter is a Digitalization Consultant.

Color makes my heart happy
If Mette had to describe her interior style in just three words, they would be colorful, functional, and playful.
"I've always loved colors and being surrounded by them. They simply make my heart happy."
Color has been part of her life for as long as she can remember. As a child, she happily experimented with colorful bedroom walls - first lavender, then a bold postbox red.
Today, she also finds inspiration through her work at rice, where colorful creativity is part of everyday life.
"I love playing with colors and creating contrasts that make a room exciting to look at."

A home full of personality
Every corner of Mette's home tells a little story. Playful candle holders, vases shaped like seahorses, cups with cheerful quotes, and baskets decorated with hearts all help create a home that feels warm, personal, and full of charm.
"My home should never feel boring."
And it certainly doesn't. There's always something new to discover, yet it never feels like a showroom where everything is too precious to touch.
Because while beautiful surroundings matter, the house must work for a busy family of five.
"We have lots of things, so storage is incredibly important to us. Baskets, cabinets, and designated places for everything make everyday life so much easier."

Color brings everything to life
For Mette, color is much more than decoration.
"Color means everything to me. It brings life, happiness, and personality into our home. I simply can't imagine living without it."
She laughs as she remembers renting a holiday home with white walls and black interiors.
"It just wasn't me. I didn't feel inspired, and honestly, I never really felt at home there."

Creativity is my energy boost
New ideas can appear anywhere.
Instagram, Pinterest, books, films, and her daily work at rice are all wonderful sources of inspiration - but often it's simply about staying curious.
"I love creative projects. Making something new or changing something around the house gives me so much energy. I honestly can't help myself."
Even during the busiest weeks, she always finds time for a small DIY project.
"Even after a long day, being creative gives me energy instead of taking it away."
Everyday life doesn't have to be perfect
As a mother of three, Mette has learned that perfection isn't the goal.
"We do what we can, and that's enough. The house doesn't have to be spotless. There isn't homemade dinner every night, and the kids don't necessarily have a bath every single day."
Instead, she tries to remind herself of what really matters.
"I'm still practicing lowering my expectations and simply being present."

Finding everyday magic
For Mette, everyday magic isn't found in grand adventures. It's hidden in the little moments.
"For me, everyday magic is being surrounded by color. Drinking my morning coffee from a colorful mug, choosing a colorful dress from a colorful wardrobe, or relaxing on my blue sofa."
But sometimes it's even simpler than that.
"Friday sweets (something very Danish) with my family or a chilled glass of rosé on a warm summer evening - that's everyday magic too."

Mette's three tips for adding more color to your home
1. Just go for it.
Don't overthink painting that colorful wall you've been dreaming about. You can always paint over it later.
2. Start small.
A colorful cushion, a playful vase, or a few cheerful accessories can completely change the mood of a room.
3. Mix, match, and create contrast.
Combining different colors, materials, and shapes is what gives a home personality and makes it feel uniquely yours.
For Mette, decorating with color has never been about following trends or rules. It's about creating a home where her family feels happy, where creativity is welcome, and where everyday moments become a little more magical.
A home that makes your heart happy.
