“You just have to become a kid again!” says Celine Bukulow — creative mom and believer in everyday magic.

Be a rice child - with Celine Bukulow

Together with her husband Boris and their daughters Apollonia (4) and Dalia (1), she brings the rice child spirit to life in their colorful home in Montabaur, Germany — where play, creativity, and imagination are always welcome.

Why is color so important in your home?

I honestly don’t think I could function without color. It’s such a big part of our everyday life - not just something we see, but something we feel. Our home is full of color, just like the way we dress. We basically look like our home: always colorful and fun!

How do you encourage creativity and play in everyday life?

There’s always space for creativity and play in our home. Apollonia has her own little atelier in my studio where she can paint, craft, and get as messy as she likes. She’s naturally imaginative - I don’t need to encourage her. She’s in there every day, making art for us and others. Her paintings are all over our home, and they’re my favorite decorations.

Can you share a tip for creating a creative space at home?

You just have to become a kid again!

Kids have this beautiful freedom and innocence when it comes to creativity – something we adults often lose. We overthink everything. Creativity doesn’t have to be complicated... it’s usually quite simple.
